Ascension Wisconsin chose to close the Labor and Delivery Unit at St. Francis on December 23, 2022. This leaves the entire south side without Labor and Delivery services. We think this is a devastating and heartless decision and are fighting as a community and union coalition to save Labor & Delivery and the broader services of the hospital.
Ascension was profiled in the New York Times for their questionable actions as a non-profit healthcare corporation. Ascension "spent years reducing its staffing levels in an effort to improve profitability, even though the chain is a nonprofit organization with nearly $18 billion of cash reserves."
