Join us for our next membership meeting on Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 11AM to 2PM. We are excited to announce that for the first time ever, WFNHP will be holding our Membership Meeting simultaneously at three locations across the state. We hope this change will allow for more members to attend and participate.

LOCATIONS:

  • CUMBERLAND - Nezzy's Sports Bar & Grill, 1345 2nd Avenue, Cumberland WI
  • MILWAUKEE - WFNHP Union Hall, 9620 W Greenfield Avenue (1st floor), West Allis WI

At the meeting we will give our annual reports and conduct necessary union business, enjoy refreshments and solidarity with members of our union from across the state, and have a chance to win door prizes.

In addition, we will have a special guest speaker, Joe Burns--longtime labor activist and author of Class Struggle Unionism and Reviving the Strike: How Working People Can Regain Power and Transform America. Joe will be discussing the importance of fighting back against healthcare corporations, and how taking collective actions can help build worker power and strengthen our union.

GUEST SPEAKER INFO:

Joe Burns Books

Joe Burns is the author of Reviving the Strike: How Working People Can Regain Power and Transform AmericaStrike Back, and most recently Class Struggle Unionism. A veteran union negotiator and labor lawyer, he has negotiated contracts in the airline and health care industries. Joe is currently the General counsel and director of bargaining of the Association of Flight Attendants CWA.

Excerpt from Reviving the Strike: "If the American labor movement is to rise again, it will not be as a result of electing Democrats, the passage of legislation, or improved methods of union organizing. Rather, workers will need to rediscover the power of the strike. Not the ineffectual strike of today, where employees meekly sit on picket lines waiting for scabs to take their jobs, but the type of strike capable of grinding industries to a halt—the kind employed up until the 1960s."

At our meeting on December 9th, Joe will be discussing the following topics and will have time for a short Q&A session after the discussion:

  1. Building a Fighting Union
  2. Workers are Ready to Fight
  3. Advanced Action
  4. Strikes
