"This is a very bad ruling, but living in a state that for years has been attacking workers' rights, we have learned that we can be a strong and effective union when we stick together and join with the community to stand up for working families. In spite of relentless attacks, nurses and healthcare workers in Wisconsin continue to join together in our union, because they know the future is better when workers have unions," said WFNHP President Candice Owley.
This ruling is another reminder that there is no court, politician, or law that will enact fairness in our hospitals, our clinics, or our communities. We are a union of healthcare professionals, and we know best what we need to deliver quality care and take care of our own families. Our collective potential is the only true check and balance on the sprawling corporatization of healthcare that increasingly consolidates power in the hands of administrators and executives who have never worked a day in our shoes. There's so much more to healthcare than a business plan, and our union knows that.
To weaken unions is to attempt to mute the voice of nurses, techs, nursing assistants, food service workers, housekeepers, therapists, nursing assistants-- all of us.
