As a new year dawns, I'd like to remind the certificated and classified members of the GJUSHD that your union is here to serve you. The GFCCE intends to improve the education environment in our district and protect your legal rights from arbitrary management decisions. Survey Results of COPE Bylaws

On December 10, members went to the polls to elect our delegates for the CFT convention and to fill out a survey on the establishment of a Committee on Political Education (COPE), which would be our local's political action committee for future school board elections.  Union leadership will unveil updated bylaws for the membership to vote on at the January union meeting.   Click on the title to read the results of the survey.

CFT Legislative Report Card

The California Federation of Teachers has published its annual legislative report card for 2009.  The past year has not been kind to teachers as the state legislature continues to grapple with huge budget deficits.  Many tough legislative battles are already brewing for the education profession in 2010 as well. I have attached a portion of the CFT report card and you can also read more at cft.org, click resources.  Click on the title of this summary and you will see some of the new laws in the field of education effective January 2010.

The District's Deficit Reaches $1.5 million

At Wednesday night's Budget Advisory Committee meeting, CBO Audrey Kilpatrick stated that the district will need to cut at least $1.5 million from the budget, not including the $200,000 annual loan payment.
