In an overwhelming vote last month, the members of the Boston Public Library Professional Staff Association (BPLPSA) voted to affiliate with AFT Massachusetts and the MA Library Staff Association (MLSA). The MLSA, part of AFT Massachusetts, represents more than 500 public librarians in 31 municipalities across the state of Massachusetts.

January 1 was the 80^th anniversary of the first Social Security payments. Since that time, Social Security has become a crucial lynchpin in the retirement income for a majority of Americans. 64 million receive Social Security, and the payments lift at least 22 million of them out of poverty. This means that the program is crucial to the health and welfare of many of our citizens.

Postmaster General Megan Brennan is leaving, and the Trump administration might now get their chance to appoint a pro-privatization replacement. We must not allow this to happen.

The AFT and dozens of other education and religious groups are watching closely this week as the Supreme Court considers whether to strike down the prohibition on state funding for religious education.
