to Support Ban on Forced Overtime
for Healthcare Workers
The bill will ban mandatory overtime for healthcare workers unless there is an unforeseen emergency and there is no other option. Nursing staff have raised alarms about the routine use of mandatory overtime to fill staffing needs in our hospitals. The quality of care for patients can be compromised when workers are fatigued and the abusive use of forced overtime is causing many nurses to quit, making the problem worse.
Because lives are at risk, the government has placed limits on the work hours of truckers, rail workers, airline pilots and flight attendants, so there is precedent for this protective legislation.
Call your State Senator and Representative and urge him/her to pass SB 108 and AB 152 to ban mandatory overtime for Wisconsin's nurses and healthcare workers. Use the toll-free Legislative Hotline:
