20 straight hours of bargaining and still no contract--Bargaining scheduled to resume Wednesday, November 11th at 9am--The bargaining team has been working almost around the clock in the struggle for new contracts at St. Francis Hospital in Milwaukee. Bargaining took place Monday, November 2nd from 9am until 9pm, and again Thursday, November 5th from 9am until 5am on Friday morning, November 6th--20 hours straight. The greatest struggle is around pay, voluntary/mandatory call, call bonus and health insurance. By 5am Friday morning, both sides were exhausted and still unable to reach an agreement so broke off bargaining, but agreed to schedule one last meeting. That bargaining session is now scheduled for Wednesday, November 11th at 9am.

Show your support--Members are encouraged to show their support by continuing to wear their LOCAL 5001 UNITED BECAUSE WE CARE buttons, union srub tops, or red and white to work. The hospital needs to know all members care about these issues and stand united to win a good contract. Feel free to communicate your personal concerns to your manager and your union reps. The struggle continues, but the more united the members--the greater the success. We have a limited number of red union scrub tops left. If you would like a one, stop by the union office (M-F, 9am-5pm) to pick one up.

Possible contract vote Friday, November 13th--If we reach an agreement on next Wednesday, we are planning to hold a membership meeting at the hospital to vote on the contract. We believe that meeting will be on Friday, November 13th. We will have very short notice but, because of the need to get signed up for insurance, we believe we need to move quickly to a vote. Keep your eye on the bulletin board, emails and union web site to see if the vote will take place on Friday.
